Microsoft® FrontPage® 98 FAQ
The following frequently asked
questions and answers are useful for solving most common problems you might
have with your FrontPage account. Additional information can be found at our
general FrontPage support area.
Yes, all accounts have both web statistics and SSL available on the Control Panel (at www.yourdomain.com/stats, normally). For additional SSL assistance, please see our FrontPage Secure Server page. There are a few possible explanations for this. First, the account may not have the FrontPage extensions installed properly. A second possibility is that the FrontPage explorer could be timing out while attempting to access your site. Normally, this indicates that the speed of data transfer is not quick enough to maintain the process of updating the site. Or there might be some type of server misconfiguration. Please contact our Technical Support personnel to determine the cause and remedy for this situation. All of our accounts are currently running the full-release version of the FrontPage 98 server extensions. These extensions are also backwards compatible with the FrontPage 97 client. If you find that you are having a problem uploading files with FrontPage, please visit our FrontPage uploading support page, or contact us for assistance. In certain instances, we have had reports of particular web-bot components that are compatible only with Windows NT servers, and will not function correctly on any of our UNIX-based accounts, including FrontPage accounts. This is due to the fact that these features were originally designed by Microsoft to function on Windows NT machines only, and were never included when the FrontPage extensions were converted for UNIX-compatibility. We've chosen Unix servers for web hosting because of their increased perfomance and reliability. Although we provide FTP access to FrontPage accounts, it should not be used to upload your pages to your account. You should only use FTP to upload to your public ftp directory or to upload scripts to your cgi-bin directory. More information regarding this issue is available on our FrontPage FTP document. Since FrontPage is primarily developed by Microsoft for use on Windows NT servers, some features are not available when the site is hosted on other types of servers (such as Unix). Things that may not function include: Active Server Pages, ODBC and MS SQL Database connections (Access, FoxPro), ActiveX, VBScript, SSL (Secure Socket Layer) Forms Processing (using the Form Web-Bot). You are most likely attempting to use FTP to upload the site to the server. If this is the case, then you should use the 'Publish' command on FrontPage to upload and the problem will be resolved. You should only use FTP to upload to your public ftp directory or to upload scripts to your cgi-bin directory. More information regarding this issue is available on our FrontPage FTP document. This is most likely due to a misconfiguration of the FrontPage software you are using. Please consult your FrontPage documentation for further instructions regarding the implementation of web-bot components on your site. Design-related issues about FrontPage can also be directed to Microsoft Technical Support.
