Microsoft® FrontPage® 98 Web-Bots

Web-Bots, also known as 'FrontPage Components', are powerful features included in FrontPage that allow web designers great flexibility. Some of them (for example, Substitution and Include) enable you to create an element of the web site once, and then include this element in any of your other pages. Any modifications to the initial element are automatically passed on to any other pages containing the Web-Bot. Other Web-Bots (such as Timestamp, Table of Contents and Search) control dynamic real-time web site features. These are the Web-Bots that keep the web site current and up to date for your viewers.

You can add FrontPage Web-Bots by selecting the 'Insert' menu on the FrontPage Editor. Almost all of the options on this menu are Web-Bots and FrontPage Components, so simply choose the one you need and insert it into your web page.

Important Note:

In certain instances, we have had reports of individual web-bot components that are compatible only with Windows NT servers, and will not function correctly on any of our UNIX-based accounts, including FrontPage accounts. This is due to the fact that these features were originally designed by Microsoft to function on Windows NT machines only, and were never included when the FrontPage extensions were converted for UNIX-compatibility. Please contact the sales office to determine if this is the case with any web-bot difficulties you might encounter.

For more assistance, please call Technical Support at 954-429-3449 between the hours of 9 AM and 10 PM Eastern, or E-Mail us. Although our technical support personnel do not provide assistance for the FrontPage software itself, we do make sure the extensions are functioning correctly on your account. Also, you can access technical support documents directly from Microsoft at this location.
